Math Background
Math in the Corner Room lives by this simple quote. We know things are going to get difficult. We know that we can't stay where we are...we need to move forward. We also know when we get there how awesome it will be!
The best part for the students is knowing that no one will be left behind. We will swim to the ISLANDS at different paces. We will offer support to one another along the way. We will encourage each other to try harder and keep going! Some of us will be on the island building huts, making lemonade, and preparing for the celebration a little ahead of time. BUT...we will all get there!
As children in the Corner Room, you are given a very special opportunity in third grade. You need to realize the most successful people are the ones who take advantage of opportunities when they arise. Every chance you get to do more, work harder, and prove your excellence will allow you to discover the new lands you are seeking.
To get the most out of our 60 minutes together each day, we need to establish routines quickly and ALWAYS be prepared for class. Come to class with a sharpened pencil, your assignment book, math folder, math journal, and math book. Most of all, come ready to learn!

A little of Mrs. Capriola's Math History
I was scared of my third grade math teacher. I never asked questions when I was confused. I would always go home and ask Jeff, my brother, to help me. I need you to know that I am here to help in any way possible. The Corner Room environment is much different than what I experienced. You should feel free to ask questions, participate, take risks, think creatively, and develop your confidence as a mathematician. My goal is for you to LOVE math! |
