Here are some questions that Peter frequently receives about The Dot and how it came to be, as well as his answers... Q: What is The Dot about? A: The Dot is the first of three books -- a trilogy of books dedicated to creativity. I call it the "creatrilogy." In this first book, we meet a girl named Vashti who has convinced herself she can not draw. Her teacher dares her to make a mark. Vashti makes one little dot on her sheet of paper... which turns out to be the beginning of her creative journey! But The Dot is more than a book about art. It is a book that encourages us to be brave about expressing ourselves. It gently reminds us to start small and explore the IDEA. It is also a tribute to great teachers who know how to use humor, "off-the-path" approaches, and who have the vision to see the possibilities in EVERY student. The book ends off with Vashti sharing this gift with others, beginning a ripple of inspiration. Read more about The Dot. Science: Pollinating Flowers
Third graders have been studying the perfect conditions for growing plants, the life cycle of a plant, and how seeds are made and spread. We each planted a quadrant of Wisconsin Fast Seeds and watched them grow from seed to flowers in 14 days. We also learned about bees and their important role in our food production. One highlight of the unit was when we glued dead bees on a toothpick and pollinated the flowers in the Science Room. We also went outside and pollinated the flowers along the fence. The 9/11 Survivor Tree Returns Home to New York We were reading about 9/11 and were fascinated to find out about the Survivor Tree. To go along with Peace Day on September 22, 2017, our unit on plants, and to honor the heroes of 9/11/2001, we wanted to do something special.
We have purchased a pear tree for Beaumont and planted it on Peace Day. The tree that survived from the courtyard of the twin towers was a pear tree. Click on the link below to learn more about the tree. The story gives Mrs. Cap goosebumps and hope. This is why we have named our new tree, HOPE. https://www.nytimes.com/2015/03/26/nyregion/the-9-11-survivor-tree-returns-home.html?mcubz=3 |

#KindnessMatters
As you drive and walk to school, have you noticed the sign on the school fence that says #KindnessMatters? It took 20 students from Mrs. Shari Capriola's Third Grade Class and 200 red solo cups to spread the word. Take a look at Mrs. Cap who is featured in Scholastic Book's Blog talking about how she uses How Full Is Your Bucket? For Kids by Tom Rath and Mary Reckmeyer, illustrated by Maurie J. Manning, to promote "bucket filling" and kindness in her classroom. Put a little love in your heart this holiday season and EVERY DAY! Author Beverly Cleary Turns 100
Beloved author of Ramona Quimby books turns 100. According to a Washington Post article, "Beverly Cleary doesn’t really want to talk about turning 100." "Go ahead and fuss," she says of the big day, April 12. "Everyone else is." |

Vote for Mrs. Cap
Did you read the Beaumont Blast? It says, "One of Beaumont's finest, Mrs. Shari Capriola (3rd Grade Teacher and has been at Beaumont for over 20 years), has made the short list for the Multiplier of the Year Award for Education, sponsored by the Wiseman Group. She was nominated by her fellow teacher, Mr. Dominic Parrotta (2nd Grade), who describes Mrs. Cap as "a true mentor and inspiration. I wouldn't be the teacher I am without having met her." With your vote, she could win a trip to California to attend a Multipliers Workshop and meet Liz Wiseman, a leadership expert and author who has inspired Mrs. Cap's teaching methods. In fact, Mrs. Cap was honored to be chosen as the T/E School District Keynote Speaker at the Convocation Assembly to kick off the 2015 - 2016 school year. Her speech to over 400 T/E faculty and staff members highlighted Liz Wiseman's book, The Multiplier Effect.
